Director, SBIR Mentoring Center | UMass Lowell Research Institute
Stacy received her BS in materials science from MIT in 1989. She started her career in Silicon Valley, working on novel composite structures at the Stanford Research Institute, then thin-film diamond at a startup in Menlo Park, CA. From there she worked on semiconductor equipment, a software startup, research on high bandgap semiconductors at the Air Force Research Laboratory, and more recently on novel materials for nuclear detection at CapeSym, in Natick, MA. At CapeSym she was a Principal Investigator on multiple SBIR programs, and wrote proposals that received over $6M in funding, including a Phase IIB, then led efforts to successfully commercialize the resulting sensor. She helped build pilot production and global sales. Today she works for the UMass Lowell Research Institute, coaching small companies through the SBIR process. In addition she helps startups team with the University and other companies.
